Hi,
This is my first message here. I think I have a very peculiar case from where I may not even recover. (? Crying or Very sad )

I have been working in India in a US-based analytics firm as a consultant for about a year and a half. Its at a startup stage here. Work is good - so is the client list. However, the company, faced with many bureaucratic issues, has not yet been able to register in India. A sister company (my employer is part of a big group) handles all HR and financial functions - but I cannot prove that I really work for the analytics firm, since my company has no official India based seal. In such a case, how am I going to prove my employment ? I will get a recommendation from my current boss (he is one of the VPs of the firm) - question is, is that enough? I will obviously explain everything in my essays, and also in interviews. Have I got myself into a hole so deep that I can never get out of?

I know its my undoing - why I even accepted such an offer on first place, but the work is really good. But I am worried everyday that my MBA dreams are all but over if I cant prove employment.

Thanks in anticipation.

Dear nick_mask:

I don't think your situation is as bad as you think it is. If you will have a recommendation from the VP, you should be in good shape. The VP should be able to corroborate your story and explain the bureaucratic problems the company has faced in getting established properly in India. Of course, this is in the event the schools you apply to question your story at all. Most schools will trust the applicants are telling the truth, as you should, unless they have reason to believe you are not. Just be upfront and honest about the situation and I think you will be fine.

Best of luck!
Lisa

Hi,
I was just wondering what will the best way to explain the bureaucratic issues that prevented my employer from getting legally registered in India - should I explain this in the additional essay?
Thanks.

Dear nick_mask:

I'm not sure the bureaucratic issue is something you need to address in your application per se. If you feel strongly that you need to disclose the problem with the business getting registered, then the additional essay/information section is probably the best place. Otherwise, you can address it, if asked in your interview or direct your VP to address it in his recommendation.

Best regards,
Lisa
