wildrebel posted BW rankings.... i extracted some data from it which must be genuine of course.

** HARVARD is the costliest college to be in followed by W & S.
** ave. cost to study @H is $345,400
** and it takes 14.5 yrs to break even.

Where did you get this data from? This MIGHT be related to cost for undergrad and b-school combined for Harvard, but even then the $345,000 estimate seems overinflated.

I think that cooldude's perspective is the commonly held belief. That's what I've been holding to at least.

everybody knows HBS doesnt charge you that much.

i know the tuition fees is much lower than the figure i mentioned.

But you should understand that there are things beyond just tuition + living and boarding expense.

Being MBA student you have to spend way too much which otherwise you wouldnt have spent.
you spend a lot of money for networking+
you dont sit idle since the day one. you try to grab your desired intern job & then your desired-post-mba-job. THis struggle costs money.
....
It pays to get paid.

you also have to throw parties frequently for ^socialising^/ ^networking^
You sometimes get a chance to visit abroad.

the total expenditure of HBS education goes around $165000. which ofcourse doesnt count the factors that i just discussed.
therefore ~~165000$ excluding above factors.

(I think, the other ^top^ b-schools-students also have these expenses but then they might be spending less.
HBS being top brand might have high-maintained-students
& hence the figure $345000)

Also BOSTON IS EXPENSIVE. Laughing

hey aimwsc doess 165k includes tution +roomboardpersonal expenses only?i mean not the sacrificed salary?if so then avrage slary upon entering for harvard guys is around 75000 per anumn that makes 150 for two years and if we add bonuse that they wld have earned while on job that wld be atleats say 15% and intersets for one one yer wld be around 2.5-6% at leats so cost wld be around 315-345 ks
but all this only if 165 doesnt include that sacrificed 2 years pay cost

Hi,
I grew quite interested reading this post. I was looking for some discussion on a quantitative ROI model for a MBA. There is an interesting article today in Financial Times written by a current MBA student who mentions that some of his colleagues constructed a roi model in Excel and decided it wasn't worth it. He obviously ignored his colleagues, and he doesn't seem to regret it too much.
