Not super sure why the answer is such.

Which are the clauses? The sentence lists the properties of the houses.

1) conical
2) cedar or pine
3) banked w/ dirt?

Doesn't 3 have to be closer to an adjective?

Well here ...firstly D is wrong because was is redundant ...was in conical ....was banked ...

D E out

C subject verb agreement error

B as high as is used during comparison which is not the case here

Aimhigh, banked with dirt is an adjective -- an adjective expression. It's parallel as is with the other descriptors, so D and E are out right off. After that Sujay's assessments are right.
