Percentage problem

by kulksnikhil » Wed Nov 15, 2006 6:44 pm
For each of her sales, a sales woman recieves a commission equal to 20% of the first $500 of the total amount of the sale, plus 30% of the sale in excess of $500. If the total amount of one of her sales was $800, the sales woman's commission was approximately what percentage of total amount of sale?

unfortunately I do not have answer choices of this problem also... My answer was 25%.. but 25% was not in the answer choices.

Can anybody come with a different answer?

its:

[100 + 90]/[500+300]

= 19/80

which is ~ 23-24%
