"The best way to give advice to other people is to find out what they want and then advise them how to attain it. "

Discuss the extent to which you agree or disagree with the opinion expressed above. Support your point of view with reasons and/or examples from your own experience, observations or reading.

The above mentioned statement sums it up all. I totally agree with the fact that advice should be given to the basis of the need of the advice seeker not just for the sake of giving advice. The most important fact is one should be given advice if and only if the person needs it. So, here, I am supporting the statement.

Advice always should be given in an intelligent way, when the advice seeker gets the benefit out of it. For an example, a person is interested in investment of his savings and he is a novice in this field. He consulted a senior person who has got intense experience but he explained everything to that person assuming he already knows the pros and cons of the market. All the complex calculation, the market risks, but not exactly what simple procedure the person has to follow. In a way, the advice seeker's purpose was not solved and he had to consult to some other person.

When advice is given to the person who is not searching for it or not come out of his problem then the purpose of giving advice goes in vain. This futile effort happens by many of us, when a person, trapped in real problem and assumed that there is no way to come out of his problem , gives in and he never searches for solution.

One's advice should be problem specific, and the advisers should go to the root cause of the problem, they should not offer an opinion on the basis of superficial symptoms. For an example, a student is not attentive in his class, instead of heckling him in front of his classmates; the teacher should give attention to the student's behavior. The student may be facing problem is understanding, he might be facing some eye sight problem, or it may be some family matter, or rather some learning disability troubling the student.

Advice always should be given in a smarter way so the person in need gets the best out of it and improve from his current state. One should be given advice if she/he really needs it otherwise the purpose of social work becomes unproductive. Again, re-confirming my last example, if a patient is suffering from eye-infection, there could be many reasons behind that, it can be due to cough and cold, it can be due to viral infection or can be due to his wrong glares. So, the doctor should go through all the possibility before advising any medicine to the patient. Advice is always acceptable when it provided in an effective way, vague proverbs, mysterious saying would not work for the person searching for advice.
