OA after some people answer...

How many different subsets of the set {10,14,17,24} are there that contain an odd number of elements?

(a) 3 (b) 6 (c) 8 (d) 10 (e) 12

4C1 + 4C3 = 8

8 is the answer. The different subsets are

10,
14,
17,
24,
10, 14, 17

14 17 24

17 24 10

24 10 14

subsets with one element - 4
subsets with 3 elements - {10,14,17}, {10, 17,24}, {10,14,24}, {14,17,24} = 4. Total = 8
