I just got back from my GMAT - scored 730 (97 percentile). I am happy with the score but totally exhausted. I will write a detailed post tomorrow.

My test scores

Please click the link if anybody wants to see my scores before the actual GMAT. They were pretty close to what I eventually got on the test - 730.

I studied almost exclusively from Manhattan GMAT books and the GMAT official books ( review, verbal and quant). I had gone through every question atleast a couple of times. I think Manhattan GMAT are the best books. I tried Kaplan, but they are Mad

Verbal was where I was lacking the most. I improved a lot on SC thanks to MGMAT SC book. This book is awesome. Anybody having problems with SC should get this book. I was on and off on the RC part and didnt really study much for RC. I think in the actual GMAT I did OK because the passages were not as bad. I thought I was doing good in CR until I started taking the timed tests and figured out that I am missing quite a few. I went back to the official guide and studied from all my mistakes.

Quant was OK for me. Only problem I had was - DS combined with number properties. They used to drive me nuts. I did see atleast a couple on the test which were DS + number properties.

Reading on this forum helped a lot. Anybody who hasnt taken the test - review all your answers right and wrong - its the best strategy! A review like this is way better than solving thousands of problems and not reading explanations.

All the best for you all. I am going to be a active member from now on(as in posting on the forum - I used to read a lot before).

git -r- dun

Congrats on a great score!

I was reading your post about your MGCAT scores a few weeks back. It's good to see that you did well on the actual test.

I took 2 MGCATs in the last 2 weeks with scores of 680(q48,v34) & 700(q49,v36). I had a score of 710 on GPrep1 nearly a month ago.
In some ways, your situation exactly parallels mine as I find DS questions and in particular, Number property/Inequality questions to be my weak point.

Can you tell me what you did to improve your DS skills over the last few weeks? I have been concentrating on verbal, especially CR & SC so I feel better about it now. My test date is Aug11.

Thanks
Nivas

I've noticed a few times that a q50v40 score is sometimes 740 and other times 730. Why is that?

Example

I am sure the percentiles for individual sections are going to be different.

axisymmetric:

Can you please reply to my earlier post? I would really like to know how you improved your DS? Also, any suggestions for CR?

Thanks,
Nivas

For DS involving number properties I went through all the questions (of this type) from MGMAT tests - its kind of pain to go through all the questions - but its well worth it.
Read the method of each problem and understand it. That way you can categorize if you see similar problems. The one that I liked the most was with DS inequalities - I dont remember the question exactly but it was something like this

is r>t
1) r+s>2t
2) some other inequality.

If we add the r>t and r+s>2t we get some answer and similarly with the (2) equation

This technique was useful for some other problems too and I am pretty sure I had one like this on the actual GMAT.

I hope this helps.
