Work profile: Sr.engineer with 3 years of exp and will be promoted to Lead this month. In my 3 years of exp (2.2 years of US exp + 0.8 years of India exp), I have got recognitions and awards and if promoted this month, then it would be the fastest track for anyone in my company.

GMAT: 630 (48, 28)
Engineering % from second tier Indian university: 76 % (with distinction, was 12th in the class of 85).

Extra curricular activities: Not enuf in work but yes in college.

I am targeting : Boston university, Maryland university, George washington university, BYU, Emory University and University of Texas-Austin.

Please do let me know if i have any chance of getting admission in of these universities.

Thanks,
Koke.

Koke,

Thanks for your note. Given the large number of MBA applicants from the IT industry, it is important to stand out. To do so, you will need to highlight your leadership and impact at work, post solid academics, and show your fit at each school.

Based on your post, you have solid work experience and strong college grades. I am a bit worried about your 630 gmat score and your lack of extracurricular activities. In an ideal world, you would retake the GMAT and increase it to 660+ to improve your chances at your target schools. For example, here are last year's average GMAT score for your target programs:
Emory 685 GMAT
BYU 661 GMAT
Maryland 650 GMAT
UT Austin 673 GMAT
Boston U. 668 GMAT

As you can see, your 630 GMAT score is below average for these programs. Thus, you should seriously consider retaking the GMAT to improve your score in order to be competitive at these programs.

Sincerely,

Eliot Ingram

Thanks Eliot.

I am taking GMAT again on 23rd Nov. I guess in the final score report all the previous score will be reported. So, are these schools going to consider the highest score or the average score. Because this would be the third time i will be taking the GMAT.
I attempt: 550 / 5.0 (AWA)
II attempt: 630 / 5.0 (AWA)
III attempt: Yet to give.

Nitin.

koke,

Thanks for your reply. The good news is that the schools will focus on your highest GMAT score. They won't average your scores. Thus, as long as you can get a good score on November 23rd, you will successfully address the GMAT issue. Good luck with your preparation!

Sincerely,
