Dear preetha_85,

Possibly. It is hard to evaluate your competitiveness with limited information. As with other engineers from India, you will need to have a high GMAT and find a way to stand out in the applicant pool. I would also encourage you to broaden your school net to the top 30 or 40. Many schools between 20 and 40 can be a great match and provide the same career resources.

Best of luck,
Lisa

Hi ,

Thanks a lot for the information. Could you please clarify the following.
I just want to know if my extra curricular activities i.e sports will provide me an edge over others. Also the fact that I am working with a top notch IT firm as an SAP consultant having experience in both the technocal and functional domain add value to my resume.
With a GMAT score of above 700 atleast(which I hope to get) could I consider applying to any of the institutes among the top 20, while i also concentrate on colleges in the 20-40 range as you suggested.

Thanks in advance.

Dear preetha_85,

An applicant from India working as a software consultant with a GMAT score of 700+ is extremely common in the global MBA applicant pool. The best way to leverage any aspect of your background is to identify what might make you different and memorable in a positive way and write about those unique traits/activities in your essays. My suggestion to look in the 20-40 range is because of the large number of applicants that look just like you (on paper, of course). Schools in this range will generally have smaller total applicant pools as well as appreciate a 700+ GMAT more.

Good luck,
Lisa

Hi,

Thanks a lot for the reply. Just want you to clarify on the last point i mentioned in the previous post.
Will my sports background help ? I played table tennis at state level nd for the university(Anna university). Was a bronze medal winner at the national level in the under 18 category.

Also the fact that I can get recommendations from the clients I work for P&G help.

Thanks again for patiently answering my queries.

Dear preetha_85,

A recommendation from a client could be helpful. Schools prefer to see recommendations from direct supervisors. If that is not possible, then they would rather have a recommendation from a client, vendor, or another party from your professional experience than a recommendation from a professor.

As I stated previously, you need to identify a unique attribute to highlight in hopes of distinguishing yourself in the eyes of the admissions committee. If you believe your sports background will distinguish you, then leverage that experience to your advantage. Remember--it is not what you did, but what you learned from that experience and the skills you used to succeed that are important.

Regards,
Lisa
