How can we know whether a person is logged in [Online] or Logged out [Offline] status? If it's already there then delete this thread and let me know how to see

Hey, that mock up is pretty nice!
This has been requested in the past before (by aim-wsc especially). Let me do some more research, I think it's fairly easy to implement.
One question for you though: how will this feature help you interact with this community?
Just challenging you to dig a little deeper on the value prop of such a feature.
Thanks!
Eric

How come this feature called "Thanks given: X Thanked X times in X" wil benefit the member of this community.
I saw in other forums too. dunno how will it benefit members
Let me answer to your survey question mate, having that feature will save lot amount of time for ME. becoz it help me to see whether a particular person is online or not in that particular thread instead of going back to the main thread. And practically speaking in my browser I am opening more than 10 threads. So it will help me to reduce my
1. Saves a lot of my TIME
2. Reduce my CPU USAGE
3. Saves my network bandwidth
4. Last but not least saves my energy
BTW it takes less amnt of algorithm codes than that of Thanks given one

errm we would like to know the benefits of having 'online status feature'. would love if you address that.... Points you put answer different question.
The question is: what it matters to me when I see a poster is online now or not?
please dont compare it with thanks feature. Two are different and unique features.
The 'thanks given' comes along with the thanks feature but ''ability to thank a poster'' is more important to us than 'thanks stats'; so, yes that's not quite significant to us but it's in the package.

Thanks for your points maverick_andy as well as the debate. I found a modification that will allow for this feature exactly. I'm still determining whether it is worth implementing on our side since it requires some code changes that could destabilize our current code base. I'll have to test, but overall I like the idea.

Andy,
How does it benefit you to see if a user within the thread is online or not? Are you Not going to reply because he is not online? Or do you want to PM because he is online? Either way, it shouldnt affect your response. The idea of having a forum is that people can interact with each inspite of the time difference between them.
How does the Thanks feature benefit the community?
If I get a lot of thanks, new people will realise that the reason i have so many thanks is probably because i am contributing something meaningful all the time. Newbies are more likely to listen to people the community trusts rather than people whom they dont know.
The Thanks feature is also the admin way of allowing people who contribute to the forum to be recognised by everybody else. Everybody loves appreciation, and allowing such a feature allows our members to really appreciate the time and effort taken by other people.
I dont see what difference it would make if you knew somebody was online or not. If your posting depends on whether they are online or not, they why bother posting? Somebody else will post anyway.
