Found throughout Central and South America, sloths hang from trees by long rubbery limbs and sleep fifteen hours a day, moving infrequently enough that two species of algae grow on its coat and between its toes.

c)sloths use their long rubbery limbs to hangfrom trees, sleep fifteen hours a day, and moveso infrequently

e)the sloth hangs from trees by its long rubbery limbs, sleeps fifteen hours a day, and it moves infrequently enough

i insist on c because of paral. the book says e

why?????

Since the sentence says "it's" , has to be a singular.

The highlighted parts make it clear that the statement is about sloth singular.
I made the same mistake. Just goes to emphasize the point that we should read the entire sentence before choosing an answer. Wink

This is an interesting SC. You might think that the construction SHOULD be plural, because the writer is describing sloths are around the world.

However, in English, we are allowed to describe a class of entities as a singular. The ambitious student is characterized by continually striving to to better himself.

The key to this sentence is the non-underlined its.

My takeaway: Identify the subject and the verb by reading both underlined and non-underlined parts of the sentence.

The rising costs bla bla bla ..............has....bla bla.

now, in this sentence has is singular...and if this verb is referring to the subject, then it has to agree with numbers.

The rising costs.....plural...it should take have...but in non underline part...it is has, so subject should be singular.

therefore make the subject of this sentecne a singular subject. The rising cost.

If you read the non-underlined parth of the original sentence, you will notice that the subject of the sentence is singular. But underlined part of the sentence says that subject is plural (Slothes). It cause subject-verb agreement. So we have to correct plural subject with singluar subject.

The sloth.... is Singular. Therefore E is the right answer.

C has subject-verb agreement Error.
