Hello
I have recenlty completed my bachelor in technology degree from a decent college

I am currently placed in Tata Consultancy Services and am waiting for my joining which is 3 months from now
extra curricular activities:
Working in an NGO from the grass root level since last 3 years where i have managed a number of events and was a member of core team leading a group of 100+ volunteers.
Actively participated in various college events and activities.
I am a freelance article writer.
I am planing to go for GMAT and score well
as the score is valid for 5 years, I am thinking of going with my job for next 2-3 years( to gain some work experience) then use my GMAT score to apply for B-schools
Please tell me whether it is a good decision and what should be my GMAT score to target some of the top b-schools
New to the GMAT world

Hey there,
Thanks so much for posting and I'm terribly sorry for the delay. Was traveling on CS business and my inbox got a bit away from me. But now I'm back so let's get into things!
First off - good job for thinking ahead! You answered two great question and I've provided my responses below. They're short because the answers are going to be frustratingly simple. But they're accurate. Hopefully this helps!
1) Yes, that's a great idea - you'll probably also do better now than if you waited. You're still in the school mindset and that'll help.
2) As for a target score, AS HIGH AS POSSIBLE. But definitely > 700. You're going into IT Consulting. You are not different. Nor unique. You will, therefore, have to be BETTER. And that starts with your GMAT. Crush it.
The other piece of advice I'll leave you with is this: think about what you want your story to be in 3 years. Is it in a particular function? Industry? Is it someone who gives back? Someone who puts out thought papers? Someone who develops others? Whatever it is - develop a brand and develop it well.
Good luck!
