Hi everybody!!!

I was going to take the GMAT last Saturday but I gave up Sad .

I was not prepare enough, I took some practice tests and I got only around 400 score. I know I need to more study, I took a class but it did not help a lot.

Does anybody know how should I prepare for it? I only need to get a score 500.

Do you know any private tutor or something?

Please advice, I would appreciate it.

Thanks!

Margaret

A tutor might be helpful and there are some here who may be able to recommend a good one.

However, there is a lot of wisdom right here on the forums as well. If you could provide more details on your weaker areas and be more specific about what you found challenging on the exam, then it would be easier for people here to be of help.

Go through the practice test and try to figure out the problems that gave you the most trouble. Ask yourself why you missed the problem. Did you not know how to do it at all? Did you just do it wrong? Did you run out of time and have to guess on too many problems? Did you get problems wrong that you thought you got right?

Why didn't the class help? Was it too advanced for your current level of knowledge? Was it just a bad class? You will need to figure out what went wrong so that you won't just end up repeating the same issues again.

Hello bekkilyn!

First of all ,it was a bad class because the teacher was saying what should we expect on the GMAT exam and he did not teach anything he was saying that we should know that, if we don’t then study.

Secondly, I am not a native speaker of English, so I have some problems with Sentence Correction , Reading Comprehension and Critical Reasoning. The Math section it not that hard for me.

I just need a good advices how should I better understand the SC, RC and CR.

Thank you, I appreciate your help!

It sounds like the class definitely wasn't a good fit for you. I haven't taken a GMAT class, but I remember a few nightmarish undergrad classes.

Let's break things down a little bit more. For SC, do you notice if you are making mistakes on certain sentence types, or does it all seem to be an issue? How confident are you with basic English grammar rules? Are you able to get the SC mostly right when you aren't being timed?

For RC and CR, are there certain types of passages or styles of writing that give you the most trouble? Are you able to stay focused when you are reading? If these passages were written in your own language, do you think you might still have some issues in analyzing the arguments, main idea, etc., or is it mostly the English causing the confusion?

You know what for the SC I am making mistakes on certain sentence types.

For RC and CR I am able to stay focused when I am reading but sometimes I am confusing about the argument. I took some English classes so I know how to find main idea and so on.

I just give up. Crying or Very sad I think that I am not ready for the GMAT yet, but when I will be who knows.

Why would you give up now when you are just at the point of moving forward? You were able to learn to communicate in English, so I have no doubt you can learn to get better at verbal on the GMAT! It will just take some analyzation and practice. Remember, most people never really feel completely ready to take the GMAT. You may want to give yourself some time to get in a bit more practice first, but do set a reasonable date and take that test!

Study those certain sentence types in SC and also get in as much practice as you can reading critically. You've come too far to give up now!
