Hi Eric
How are you doing . Well I need your advice , yesterday i wrote CAT on princeton site and scored 620. I want to push that score above 720 , can you give tips reagrding same. What i identified , is that i scoring very good in critical resoning ( almost >90% accuracy ) but in sentence correction its fluctuating between 30-50%. I completed quantative with 30 minutes spare and in verbal 10 mins to spare. I feel that i was going too fast maybe because of that i scored so low. Need few tips from you URGENTLY !!!!
Regards |

It sounds like you definitely have some work to do with pacing. By going a bit slower (a little less than 2 min per question), you will be able to avoid some careless errors you would otherwise make. Are you making careless errors?
The way I worked on my pacing was to practice my problems with a stopwatch--gives you a good sense of the time you should devote to each problem.
With regard to sentence correction--this sounds like the big area where you can really improve your score. I recommend that you get Manhattan GMAT's Sentence Correction Guide. This is The Bible of sentence correction, and will help you a lot in your prep!
Best of luck! _________________ Eric

though this q is aimed at eric... i cant help but butt in... dude u have to increase the time u give to each q ... u dont get extra points for the 30 minutes that is left at the end of the quant session... make use of every minute given in the exam ... it is very much possible that u lost some well deserved points by speeding thru the quant part ..
try spending more time on each q ( ~ 2 minutes) and see whether ur accuracy level increases .... i am sure it will...
abt the SC part ... if the accuracy does not improve even after giving more time to it ... then as eric said start with manhattan guide.. and then move on to Spideys notes and Sahils notes ... in the process also make ur own notes ...
btw when hav u scheduled the exam for... |

Don't know anything about 800score.com. Kaplan materials are generally good. _________________ Eric

| Princeton Review is better for verbal than Kaplan. I would get the Verbal Workout book, and a grammar guide as well. I have Grammar Smart and it's pretty good. |

Wow, 60 point improvement is really impressive!
What I would recommend next is identifying the subject areas/problems where you are most weak, and start improving your performance in these areas through lots of practice/analysis. Your current weaknesses are the best opportunities for improvement. _________________ Eric

It takes a lot of practice to improve. I recommend a systematic approach. Start with the verbal area you are weakest (example, SC), and do lots of concept review and practice problems in that area. Monitor your performance for all of your practice sets and try to narrow down weaknesses into specific buckets--for example, you may find that you consistently get idiom SC problems wrong.
Do the same exercise with your next weakest area, and so forth. _________________ Eric
