Topic: My GMATPrep performance
PostWed Oct 31, 2007 8:33 am

Hi Guys,
I got a shocking 490 in my first GMAT. I was scoring around 600 in my GMATPreps..Dont know what happened.

My 2nd GMAT attempt is day after tomorrow. I am taking GMATPrep everyday just to get an idea of where I stand. My scores are:

Kaplan-1 : 540
Kaplan-2 : 500
Kaplan-3 : 540
Kaplan-4 : 540
PowerPrep : 710 (Q47, V40)
GMATPrep-1 : 680 (Q47, V36)
GMATPrep-2 : 640 (Q47, V30)
Free MGMAT : 660 (Q47, V33)
GMATPrep-3 : 640 (Q47, V31)
GMATPrep-4 : 650 (Q45, V34)

As you can see my score has been around 640 inspite of taking GMATPrep multiple times. In my last GMATPrep, 3 of the RCs and 5 CRs repeated. But the SCs were really tough. Got 10 of the SCs wrong! In quants I got different questions in all my attempts.

I found the RC and SC to be tougher than that in OG. Did anyone else feel the same way?

Do you guys think I have a chance of getting around 640 in GMAT? I am not sure as to how accurate my GMATPrep scores are as I have taken the test many times.

GMATPrep is definitely the best indicator of your actual GMAT performance. In general, people seem to get scores close to what they had performed on their GMATPrep tests, with a variance of about 40-50 points--of course, there are always outliers...

I think you are certainly in range to get a mid-600 score, based on your practice test performances. Good luck, and please let us know how it goes!

I finally ended up with 600 (Q47, V27) in GMAT Crying or Very sad

Verbal section was very tough..I have never come across such a difficulty level in Verbal. I think the last 50 questions on OG-11 will be easier than what I got in GMAT today! Sad

Do you guys think I have any chance of getting into top 30 US schools? I have 2 years of full time work experience in IT.

Hi sriram:

Sorry to hear that you didn't reach your target score. That being said, a 600 is still a pretty solid performance. If you're confident in your work experience as well as your college performance, I think you have a very good shot at a Top 30 US school.

I'd ask for further advice on admissions from Stacy Blackman Consulting.

All the best!
