Hello,

Please review my background and evaluate my profile.

-I am a 29 year old male Asian
-Went to non nationally ranked (regional ranking around #30)undergrad with 2.71 GPA with Finance BA
-Played college golf on scholarship
-After college, worked as a financial adviser for 1.5 years then as Business Analyst for a family real estate management company for 2 years.
-Then I went on to work in operations (back office) for a regional bank for 3 years.
-Received CFA charter in 2013
-Currently at a small hedge fund in NYC doing front office research

I want to get an MBA because of my change in my career. I went from operations to front office role currently learning about equity and fixed income valuation and analysis. I would like to further my education and dig deeper about the subject and to hopefully really jump my career trajectory.

I know that I will have to score extremely well on my GMAT but not sure if this alone will be enough to cover my horrendous GPA and the school name.

Thank you in advance for your help and advice.

Hi there,

It does sound like your GPA is one of your biggest weaknesses! Part-time would be somewhat less challenging to gain admission to, so that may be the way to go, and yes a strong GMAT is still going to be necessary. On the plus side through your work experience you have demonstrated some quantitative and analytical skills. The CFA is a small plus as well. I would research the programs thoroughly to compare yourself with the class profiles and averages for the leading PT programs and go from there. Feel free to come back with a GMAT score or other q's, and/or sign up for our free consult option at any point as well.
Good luck!

Really appreciate your input.
I guess I just need to get +700 on the GMAT and start from there.

Keep us posted; 'need' is a strong word but it would greatly help of course! Doing a prep course or working with a tutor can help! Keep us posted.
