    A wildlife expert predicts that the reintroduction of the caribou into northern Minnesota would fail if the density of the timber wolf population in that region is more numerous than one wolf for every 39 square miles.

    (A) would fail if the density of the timber wolf population in that region is more numerous than
    (B) would fail provided the density of the timber wolf population in that region is more than
    (C) should fail if the timber wolf density in that region was greater than
    (D) will fail if the density of the timber wolf population in that region is greater than
    (E) will fail if the timber wolf density in that region were more numerous than

    OA is D.. Please where we use more than/greater than or less than ….

    Density, an abstract "mass" noun, is logically construed with greater than.

    The main grammatical mistake to be spotted in this task concerns verb forms. Based on that it is easy to eliminate answers A,B and C.

    Hi Kaisa,

    Yes I agree to your approach and OA. But, might be a wrong question to ask , I wanted to know the usage of comparison terms Smile Could you please shed some light on their usage.

    greater than is used to compare uncountable nouns
    more than is used to compare countable nouns
    Density can not be counted and hence greater than

    Following are some more examples:
    Countable Modifiers
    MANY hats
    NOT MANY hats
    FEW hats
    FEWER hats
    FEWEST hats
    NUMBER of hats
    FEWER THAN 10 hats
    NUMEROUS hats
    MORE NUMEROUS hats

    Uncountable Modifiers
    MUCH patience
    NOT MUCH patience
    LlTILE patience
    LESS patience
    LEAST patience
    AMOUNT of patience
    LESS THAN a certain AMOUNT of patience
    GREAT patience
    GREATER patience
