It seems like they have a quick 20 question diagnostic gives 300 to 500 level questions. They use it to determine what class would be good for you to take. They give 40 minutes to do take the test. I completed it in half the time and got 17/20 correct. Should I have taken more time and try to spend time on questions that gave me a rough time? I'm trying to get a feel for what I need to do for D-day. For some reason it seemed by biggest problem area is geometery.

Going through what i got wrong it was stupid errors. Forgot to go back and subtract two vaules which would have given the right answer and a stupid adding mistake... Sad

Believe me, I know the feeling! There's nothing quite like understanding a question, attacking it correctly, and then giving away points because of a basic error.

As I mentioned in the other thread, it would be worth revisiting these troublesome problems in the future. It will help you identify the most common "stupid errors" that you make, and that's the first step to correcting them.

Bill again I have to say thank you. You have been nothing but responsive and give such great advice. I am keeping track of what I am getting wrong, but how do I correct for if I know the formula is say .5*b*h but then when I did the math I made a bad calc error? There is a big difference between getting it wrong because not knowing and because of just a "careless" mistake.

Trending my careless mistakes the reason is i don't double check because I'm worried about the time. I don't think I should always double check as the vaule vs time isn't there. Should I just live with them as in the overall way the gmat is "graded" I would still get asked those 600, 700+ questions even if i make one or two careless mistakes on those low level question...

Just make a note of the calculation you messed up. "forgot to divide b*h by 2," "misread what I was solving for," etc. If you find you're doing the same thing over and over (which is somewhat common), then you can work on correcting it. If it's something only appears once ("multiplied 4 by 3 and got 14"), then it's not worth obsessing over.
