Application Essay Prompts
The Executive MBA is designed for experienced managers who aspire to be effective executives and entrepreneurs and professionals who aspire to be more effective leaders of their organizations. Applicants are required to answer the following essay questions. The first question has three versions depending on your career background. Select the version that is appropriate for you.
Essay Question #1
1a. If you are an experienced manager (for profit or not for profit) describe your experience with managing direct reports (what functional area, how many, for how long), managing budgets (how big) and revenue and cost responsibilities, and special projects (nature, size in terms of budget and personnel, and duration). (350 words)
1b. If you are a professional (Doctor, Dentist, Lawyer, Architect, etc.) describe your professional experience to date and what leadership position you aspire to in your field (managing a clinic, or a unit of a law practice, etc.) Details about the leadership position should include information about mission, number of people you will be leading, and size of budget. (350 words)
1c. If you are an entrepreneur, describe your business experience including time before you were an entrepreneur. What motivated you to become an entrepreneur? What have you done as an entrepreneur (include details about nature of business, size of operations including people and revenues, and successes or failures)? (350 words)
Essay Question #2
One of the greatest challenges you will face while pursuing the Executive MBA is finding the balance between work, family, personal, and professional obligations. Most students will spend approximately 15-20 hours outside of the classroom. How do you intend to shift your priorities in order to complete the EMBA successfully? (250 words)
Essay Question #3 (Optional)
In the Executive MBA, you will learn not only from your professors, but also from those that are sitting next to you in class. Share with us something that you feel the class will learn from you. (150 words)
