Kellogg Celebrates Diversity!
What’s the best way to unwind after midterms and kick-off the Halloween weekend? Watching your classmates dress-up as the opposite sex (aka “in drag”) and perform ridiculous dance routines of course! Every Friday, a student group hosts a free Happy Hour (beer and snacks) called TG (short for TGIF, which is short for Thank God it’s Friday). I guess it got shortened to TG because students are brain-dead by the end of the week!
Anyway, this past TG was hosted by students in the Kellogg Veteran’s Association and the Gay & Lesbian Management Association (GLMA) and is the most widely attended TG of the year. All sorts of hilarity ensues when the First Year sections compete for the best drag team. I was also inspired by the enthusiasm with witch several students, myself included, wore their GLMA t-shirts and LGBT Ally buttons.
What was the best part about Drag TG you ask? Why watching my Highlander classmates win the drag competition of course! This marks the first of hopefully several Highlander victories over the next two years and beyond! Students were asked not to post pictures where individuals could be easily identified. I think the photo posted above is sufficiently blurry to mask identities but it gives you a sense of how popular this event is at Kellogg. I was looking forward to it all week, and literally couldn’t sit still in my last class. I wasn’t the only one. At one point, the professor openly asked if he had everyone’s full attention. We told him “no”. LOL.
This Friday, Kellogg will welcome potential students to a Diversity Preview Weekend (Nov 4-5) where they will learn about the school, its courses and clubs, hear a message from Dean Blount, and speak with current students from the Black Management and Hispanic Business Associations, GLMA, and the Africa Business Club. For those that are coming – we are very excited for your visit and can’t wait to meet you!
Students attending Diversity Weekend will also get a “taste” of Kellogg – The Asian Management Association along with the India Business Club will be hosting TG this Friday. Their members will be grouped by country in a winner takes all cooking battle royale to see “whose cuisine reigns supreme”! Several of my section-mates have told me that they will be cooking in the competition, which only makes things more exciting. I’m not sure who will win, but my stomach and I will be ready to eat!
