The significance of Coordinating conjunctions in English language in general and in the GMAT in particular can never be undermined. We usually have atleast one sentence correction question based on the FANBOYS(the acronym FANBOYS stands for: For, And, Nor, But, Or, Yet, So)

Jim Jacobson discusses the subtle details of the usage of each of these conjunctions in a series of articles.

The things these conjunctions connect must be the same type of thing — an adverb and another adverb, a noun and a noun, an independent clause with another independent clause.
