HI,
I AM ASHISH FROM NEW DELHI,INDIA.
MY AIM IS TO
- DO A BUSINESS START UP BACK IN INDIA ..OR
-EXPAND AND CORPORATISE MY FAMILY BUSINESS(LEATHER SHOE EXPORTS)

MY profile_
-HSC-96%
-SSC-95%
-B.COM-74%(AGRA UNIVERSITY)
-CHARTERED ACCOUNTANCY(FINAL YEAR)- 78%(TILL NOW)
-GMAT-710;IELTS-8.0
-ECs-below average(some sports(hockey, lawn tennis, badminton) at school and college level and community service)
-I HAVE done a 3 year iINTERNSHIP in a chartered accountancy firm in agra and also have spent some tym helping my father in his shoe exports biz.

i have two options....either to go for MIM (based in entrepreneurship/marketing) now
or an MBA(may be after a year and a half from now with some sort of full time business experience)

i have shortlisted the following programmes for mim..
-emlyon/zhiejang/purdue(global entreprenuership programme)
-hec paris(grande école masters in management)
-lse(masters in management)
-duke(mms)
-esade(mim in entreprenuership)
-ie(masters in marketing)

mba programs options would be(if i wait for a year)
-IIMs(india)
-us b schools like columbia, babson, new york(stern) etc(not sure of chances of getting in)

i WOULD LIKE TO COMPLETE MY EDUCATION AS EARLY AS POSSIBLE TO DO A STARTUP.
So considering my profile and career goals...what would you recommend...
do an mim or wait for an mba..??

and even if i do wait for an mba..
-what are the chances of getting into top 20 US MBA programs with
-about 2 years of work ex..
-and pretty average co circulars.(i can improve on my gmat)

I NEED SOME URGENT ADVICE...PLZ HELP..!!
p.s i know no school can make me an entrepreneur but i want to experience the world and get some insurance(degree) if my entrepreneurship plans dont go well.

Well, if anyhow you are 100% sure that you want to do a startup, and don;t have to worry about being hired, it may make sense for you to do an MiM, because what you are looking for is knowledge for YOURSELF, and you might as well start earlier than later.

A second option would be to take that one or three years, try to do your startup without B-school, see how that goes, get the experience of success or failure or whatever, but the EXPERIENCE, and then do an MBA, which might be more helpful to you, because you can base it on what you know.

I think both options are good for you, and you need to think about what fits in best with your program.
