I think that is a smart decision. Good ethics, too, letting the others have a wider shot.

No, seriously, congrats! I hate to admit it, but UCLA is a great school.

What a wonderful story. Thanks for being really great about updating this ! This was very helpful.

I was wondering - when you heard back from UCLA?

I know that R1 says people will hear back January 8. Did you hear back that day? I saw the interview Q's for Haas - do you remember the interview Q's from UCLA?

I think your story is really really informative and I think it takes real wisdom to pinpoint your strengths and weaknesses like you did. You documented your path very well and I think this will be helpful to people for years to come.

Congrats on UCLA. I hope I can join you there next year.

Cheers!

Hey doclkk, thanks for your support. I heard back from UCLA prior to the actual deadline. If I remember correctly I heard from UCLA on Thanksgiving day which was a few weeks prior to the other notifications, and I think this was because I was a merit fellowship recipient. The other people that I read on the boards that were notified early also had awards.

The UCLA questions were actually similar to Berkeley's (why Anderson? why now? what are your goals? etc), but I felt the UCLA interview was more free-form - the topic moved along as the conversation progressed and it was very natural. The Haas interview had questions that you could tell they wanted to get to simply because the change in direction was noticeable.

I'm glad all this documenting is helping the community at large - that was why I wanted to put all this out there. It would be GREAT to see some BTG members at UCLA over the next two years!
