I welcome all GMAT aspirants who are thinking of taking the test in coming months.
Lets be together in this quest.
The founder of this site, Eric, ~two years ago when started his preparation, created a blog and recorded his progress in his dail journal. He very meticulously noted each and every concept and the strategies he leared in his blog.
Today I am not attempting anything similar; because Nothing can beat his blog.
But I am starting this thread. This thread will record my progress as I would study for the GMAT.
And in this process (preparation of GMAT) I would be greatful to have a company.
Other members please join in.
we will work together to beat the GMAT!
...This is also my attempt to ease Eric's burden!
The website, as i see, is growing like anything and with current load of website i can see the burden on Eric's shoulder.
( though i know Admin must be enjoying this!)
I encourage all members to feel free to hit any damn query here on this thread... instead of starting a new topic altogether for some genreal query
Let us together beat the GMAT! yes you heard it right!
I am too planning to take the test in coming months.
So! what i expect from visitors/ posters here?
Lets share the information and strategies you found interesting
lets share the strategies you invented
Lets talk about anything related to GMAT. ( new websites/ blogs / trends/ percentiles/ any brainstroming/ intellectual discussion anything)
lets talk about your progress.
lets see what you are upto
lets discuss the problems you are facing
lets help each other.
Lets interact and together build a great COMMUNITY (not just a forum)
lets add value to the forums, and create GMAT IP.
lets beat the GMAT!. _________________ JohnyCAGE's

|
|
Cant believe i havenot logged in in last fifteen hours!!!
yeah! minutes before i was restless. ... it happens when you are addicted to the forums. godforbid!!
I checked my drawer and found lots of GMAT study material that i once downloaded some months ago....
I still remember me diclaring that i wouldnt be taking the test..
... i think whatever happens, happens for good.
Anyway:
Now I have my passport in my hand
So it has began:
DAY ZERO:
{(Consider this as yesterday)
On day ZERO I made an announcement here (by starting this thread)
I went through the syllabus of GMAT.
I checked OG11. and rapidly, very quickly scanned the study section (not problems)
this ensure me that I am aware of the syllabus and ready to study for GMAT.
I made a plan for next seven days.
Its llike this:
DAY 1: TAKE DIAGNOSTIC TEST OG 11
DAY 2: COMPLETE DAY SC
similarly each next day will be devoted to each of five GMAT sections.
Everyday along with imp sections i ll spend forty minutes for AWA section.
On
DAY 7: After (just) brushing up all sections I d take the first practise test
ie POWER Prep TEST 1.
based on my that score i ll plan further.
DAY seven is on 23 Dec.
...
I ll be busy during 23-31 Dec.
So we ll be meeting on 1st Jan then
SUMMARY: DAY ZERO
STUDY TIME :~40 mins
** Checked the syllabus @ OG11
**Started a thread @ btG
things learned:
"i have to make a clear plan & to do that i need to understand what i am upto; got to take the CAT (simulated test) in a week"
NOTE: I HAVE DRAWN MY STUDY PLAN BASED ON MY NEEDS AND REQUIREMENTS; ITS NOT NECESSARY THAT IT WILL HELP YOU THE SAME WAY.
PLEASE NOTE THAT I ALREADY HAD FINISHED OG11 ONCE (...IN JUNE)
IF YOU WANT ME TO MAKE A GOOD STUDY PLAN FOR YOU IN GENERAL JUST ASK ME HERE IN THE THREAD I LL TRY ONE FOR YOU.

My two cents...
I will be a regular visitor here...and I wud love to help in any way I can...
What I would suggest here...
1. Publicise this thread as much u can so as to have a group of 5-6 people.
2. These 5-6 people will follow the same schedule...
3. they will keep track of each others performance as well.
4. They will share imp info, tips n tricks.
5. We will have a huge post with 15-20 classic questions which will have all the imp concepts..basically capturing the essence of GMAT....trust me thats doable...
6. In course, we will have an amazing collection of problems, tips tricks and formulae, rules, etc.
So Aim, you can start the task of having 5-6 people whose prep go inline.
Cheers!! _________________ Nobody can go back and start a new beginning, but anyone can start today and make a new ending.

I JUST checked the voting results:
5 for Jan
2 for Feb
&
1 for bliss!
wondering who's that ^bliss^ must be muku or eric
As i see lots of people want to study for Jan GMAT test here, i would recommend to check all sticky threads Eric had written while building the site.
believe me i Read Eric's blog once & i never asked a single query on any online forums
i d esp recommend this link: http://www.beatthegmat.com/viewtopic.php?t=98
back to my studies:
I am happy to see that i spend less time on online forums and more time studying GMAT!
yet i am posting more useful posts lately on the forums.
I guess i am lagging behind the schedule.
Today i check diagnostic test of OG 11
no time set.
i allowed myself to spend as much as time for a difficult problems
i got stumped at PS #16 & was totally stumped. no idea what was that..
then seen the answer and laughed at myself
i am surprised to see not a single problem of P & C...
you don t wan tto hear my score
PS avarage [15/24]
& DS above average [18/24]
but i am not worried at all
because the less i score now hard i ll study then ( and bit seriously too...)
i know i can crack it. i did it. yes last time. so will do it this time too.
My study and my GMAT score is actually the real test for www.beatthegmat.com...
lets see what i am upto.
SUMMARY: DAY ONE
Study time: as much as i could (1-2 hrs)
** OG11 Diagnostic test Quant: PS & DS
things learned:
i am surprised to see not a single problem of P & C...on OG11 (also the topic is not covered in the syllabus) _________________ JohnyCAGE's

You last visited on Tue Dec 19, 2006 6:55 pm
Time now is (IST) Wed Dec 20, 2006 11:51 pm
Man! 28 hours??? TWENTY EIGHT HOURS.!!??!!
Anyway back to topic.
as i mentioned in my last post that i am lagging behind, i realised that OG11 diagnostic test took my more than a day. in fact i spend around 4 hours for just diagnostic test.
yeah! thats right. & i think it is less.
So instead of starting SC on day TWO i was taking the d test of Verbal section.
that means i expanded Day ONE in two days and thus merge two days that i would devote for PS & DS in one Quant day.
My diagnostic score for Verbal:
again you dont wanna hear that..
RC they said Average
CR above average
SC average.
so thats about it.
Next four days i ll be concentrating on Each of the GMAT section namely '
Quant (merged), SC, CR and RC
at the end of the day i should be in a position to invent at least one good short cut / strategy for each section.
Yeah did few while practising today too. but they are not worth mentioning here....
maybe in coming day i find something interesting.
SUMMARY: DAY TWO
study time: as much as i could draw (~2 hrs)
** diagnostic test OG 11 Verbal
things learned:
nothing worth mentioning _________________ JohnyCAGE's

Keep up the good work (posting your updates at regular intervals)
I was wondering how good are the diagnostic tests in OG 11th edition in predicting someone's actual GMAT scores!
Best,

dear Sriram,
good to know that you are too planning to take it on Feb 2007.
btw let me tell you, we have very less time remained///

Thank you people,
for my study updates i could have used my blog also which apparently has a good traffic but i wanted this to be interactive and more if i could benefit others while studying for GMAT the better.
Blog is the option for motorcycle rider who just enjoys his journey, see scenery, take a snap or two and moves ahead.
On the other hand i want to make this a Bus journey, where all we GMAT aspirants (jan/feb/march) would travel together, sing along, and make our way to beat the GMAT.
i just edited my earlier posts & added the SUMMARY.
THAT will be neat.
as i said i ll get back to you on 31st.
signing off for now
Happy holidays guys.
Keep the thread on go. _________________ JohnyCAGE's

Dear All,
The discussion is going on really well..Good to be in such a crowd of like minded..BTW I took my second GMAT prep test and scored 670. I improved from my earlier 610, I believe this is because I never wasted time in between the exam,,I mean last time when I took the prep test i was getting up from my seat very often, this time it was well concentrated effort..
I heard that Kaplan tests are harder and if we get around 630 or so its a very good score with Kaplan,, is this true guys?
Regards,

Kaplan practice tests are very difficult, and the scores tend to be skewed down signficantly--often 60-100 points below what you should actually expect on your real GMAT.
Kaplan is great practice, but don't take the scores seriously.
Best of luck! _________________ Eric
