Topic: Leadership essay
PostFri Oct 16, 2009 12:00 am

hi

I am planning to apply for an EMBA program and have a question on the leadership essay. I have a great example from 2001, but wondering if it is too distant in the past for my essay. Should I cite a more recent example of leadership if I am planning to apply this year?

Thanks

Hello,

I do consider a story from 2001 too far in the past for the main experience of a leadership essay. However, you might be able to use the 2001 experience as a prelude of sorts for a more recent leadership experience - while the main focus (and the bulk of the essay) would be on the later experience, you’d still be able to show the earlier experience, and you’d also show that you grow and are resourceful as a leader by learning from and building on earlier experiences.
