Topic: Knewton GMAT course
PostWed Nov 04, 2009 2:29 pm

Hi all

I am looking into signing up for the Knewton GMAT course, and looking for views/reviews on the course from current and past students. Has the course been a good investment? Did it improve your scores? I am currently scoring between 630-670 and looking to break 700, will/can the Knewton course take me there?

Thanks in advance for your help

I am pretty much in the same league, and would also like to know about it. I did attend one trial class, though it was good but I thought the content was very basic and not sure if it would really help me improve my score.

They do have money back gurantee, but I do not want to commit my time to a course that may not really help me, given my situation.

I do believe it would have been great had I started their course on day 1 of my prep.

Any thoughts would be great.

Hi,

I am currently taking a Knewton course (almost finished - 4 sessions left).
I enrolled in the Knewton course because of 2 reasons :-
1. Money back guarantee :- I took the Knewton diagnostic test and got a 680 and thought that if the course can help me raise to 700+, then it would be worth it.
2.More importantly, I needed some sort of structure for my preparation. It was difficult for me to find time to study on a regular basis and hence enrolled for the course.

Now to the course:-
IMO, here are some + points:-
1. Most of the tutors are very good. They make the class interesting.
2. Pretty good interaction in the class.
3. Ability to structure the 15 sessions according to your time. There are a few SECTIONS to help structure the course. For example, you can choose one section with 2 classes /week (takes around 2 months) or another section with one class/week (obviously around 4 months). Hence, depending on your schedule and time you take the test, you can structure it accordingly.
4. Archived sessions (very useful !). I use this a lot in order to make up for lost live sessions/classes.
5. Live/Archived Office hours sessions(around 6 good questions from all the test sections are explained in a 1 hour session)
6. Practice questions (according to Knewton 3400 of them).
7. Strengths and weakness (concept queue) and good analysis of where you stand

Some "so-so" or -ve points :-
1. I am not sure about the strength of the study material (concepts) especially if you are starting the GMAT prep and looking for a very high score. For example, I am studying SC from the Manhattan SC guide which is an awesome resource. Same too with quant (i use other books for some good practice).
2. Also, if you are a person who likes to study concepts from a book (like me !)and take notes, the course will be different (only online). But this is not a bad thing ! This is a personal choice.

Overall, I have been impressed till now with the Knewton course. But obviously, I can only give the definitive answer once I complete my GMAT (which I have not scheduled yet) and get my desired score ! Smile

Hope this helps a bit ! Let me know if you have any other qns !

Thanks,
John
