Hey there dude,
So far your profile looks pretty nice! You have a great GMAT in an interesting industry to start with. To boot, you have lots and lots of really awesome leadership, and some good experience working with international clients. Your big weakness right now is the low GPA from a non-IIT school. But maybe you can make up for it at least somewhat with your unique industry and strengths.

A second weakness (although one that is very very easy to fix) is that you don't really have enough work experience to apply. 2 years is VERY little if you are not from a select industry (Consulting/finance), so you might want to consider just holding off until next year to increate your chances. It would also give you another year to get a bit more volunteer work, because as I see it, outside what you did at school and the presumably not much you do at work, I don't see a serious volunteer work in your profile.

Schools in the Top five like Harvard, Stanford will be far stretches for you, so you should concentrate your energies on schools ranked about 5-20. The schools you chose are good, but you should add a few more from the bottom half of this list to even things out a bit.

Hope this helps,
Best,
Jon

Hi Jon,
Thanks for you valuable comments.
Yet i am not from IIT college but my college conducts a joint admission exam with IIT and i have qualified it after competing with 1.2 million students with a rank of 5644. My college is the best mining college in whole Asia. Can you kindly suggest which colleges i should add to as i want to go in consulting and strategy related job post MBA. I would prefer a energy sector related job.
The most important thing is that waiting for 1 more year is not an option for me. So based on that what should be my list of college and how many schools i should apply to.

I consider your advice very seriously as many of my friends has talked about you. So kindly request you to you help me on this.

Regards
Kishlaya

Kishlaya,
Hey!
Well, if waiting is not an option, then you'll just have to take your best shot this year. But be aware of one thing: Just because you have to/want to go to Bschool now, does not make it make sense for the B-school, so you have to play to their logic when explaining why you are applying NOW and not next year.

Anyhow, Kellogg, McCombs, Haas, all make sense, Darden and Tepper, you could apply to because they are a bit easier to get into than the others on your list. You could also apply to Rice, which for energy, is a fantastic school as well, and maybe Gerogia Tech as your safe school? You should basically be apply ing to as many schools as applications you can finish before the deadline in order to give yourself the best chances, and the best chances of getting a scholarship.

Make sense?

Best,
Jon

Hi Jon,
Thanks for the advice.
It totally make sense. Keeping your advice. I am applying to Duke R1.
Rest of the college I am applying in R2. I do want to try for Kellogg and Harvard just as my dream college.
For R2 McCombs is sure. Rest of the colleges are not decided yet. So 4 colleges are final. Rest list is not final. I am not sure about Rice and Georgia Tech as it is way below at what I am targeting according to Forbes list. But I think I should apply to one. Now I am very confused about rest 5.
List of college
1.Harvard
2.Kellogg
3.Duke
4. Mccombs
5.Don't Know
6.Don't Know
7.Don't Know
8.Don't Know
9.Don't Know
10.May be Rice

Can you kindly suggest some based on profile. Thanks a lot for your time and efforts.

Thanks a lot for such a great help.

Hey Kishlaya,
So sorry for the delayed answer here dude. I was on the road for a while and juuuust got back.

But lemme answer your post and help you fill out that list:

Sooo my thoughts for five more schools with a vast range:

Johnson
Anderson
Tepper
Even though it's tough, I STILL like Haas because of Berkley/Valley/Tech. Which means you need about one more if you keep Rice as a safe school. You could even add one more tough school to the list, so I'll leave that up to you.

Otherwise, feel free to have a look at a post on our website, which might help you with choosing your MBA: https://admissionado.com/mba/choosing-the-right-mba/

Best,
Jon
