Hi All ,

I recently took the kaplan tests and I just want to know how this compares with the actual scores one can get on the GMAT.
Also one more puzzling thing i noticed especially in the quant section was that even though my mistakes were fewer in no. compared to previous tests my scaled score was dropping.

Given below are my actual scores in the 3 tests i took :
cat 1 : Quant scaled score : 50 (Correct 28 wrong 8)
cat 2 : Quant scaled score : 42 (Correct 30 wrong 7)
Cat 3 : Quant scaled score: 38 (Correct 31 wrong 5 not attempted 1)

Could some body explain why it is so..

Also in my second cat my score were Quant 42 and verbal 32 overall score 600
However in my 3rd cat my scaled scores were compartively lesser Quant 38 and verbal 33.. but my overall score was 610.

Could u please explain how so ... ?

Thanks in advance

Hi,

In terms of how CATs work, the scoring is based on an algorithm that takes into account not JUST how many you get right and wrong, but also the difficulty level of the questions you answer, so there is not always a direct correlation between # incorrect and score, something to keep in mind. The best thing to do at this point is really study and review the tests you already took and see if there are specific areas that you continued to struggle on or need to focus on. Learn from your mistakes, especially mistakes under timed, test-like conditions.

As for your scoring, were the CATs you took on a CDROM or online? Kaplan's CATs in general are designed to be as predictive and accurate as possible, but our online CATs are the most up to date and accurate, whereas the CDROM is more static and is often considered to provide scores that are lower than what you'd likely receive on test day (note: our retail division, which created that CDROM that comes with certain books, is working to correct that. All CATs that come as part of our comprehensive online or live courses have the online CATs and up to date scoring). Any of our CATs will provide you with a good feel of your strengths and weaknesses and what you need to work on, as well as provide you with practice in test-like conditions.

Good luck with your studies, let us know how else we can help.

Hi ,

Thanks a lot for the reply... I took the tests from the CD ROM.. So hw representative are they... ?
also since ur total score is a function of ur Quant nd verbal score..
How can u have lower scaled scores but a higher final score.... ?

Thanks again...
