Just Getting Started & Need Some Feedback

Hi All,

I started preparing for GMAT last week. In the first week I decided to solve the GMAT Quant Review (Green Book) PS solving questions. Of the 176 questions, I got a strike rate of 80 %. Of the questions which were wrong, 40 % of those were due to silly mistakes and the rest were conceptual mistakes. I want to know from the experts out here the following things :

a) Is this a decent start considering that it was an un timed test ?
b) Should I go ahead and solve the DS questions in this book to get a good idea of where I stand over all ?

PS : In the last 76 questions which were the tougher ones, my strike rate was only 60 % Crying or Very sad

Hey rickyishere,

Congrats on starting your GMAT prep! I hope that you'll be able to leverage this community during your prep and your MBA admissions, we're here for you.

With regard to your questions, I think that its not worth your time to focus on hit rates or strike rates. The GMAT doesn't work the same way as tests we used to take at school, where getting 90%+ correct earns you an 'A'. Since the GMAT is computer adaptive, it is feasible to get a lot of questions wrong but still end up with a great score.

Instead, focus on identifying your strengths and weaknesses. Spend a lot of time reviewing your wrong answers, and figure out why you got them wrong.
