:x ...sometimes I regret my lack of presense here :x

..was about to say that bring gabriel, neo2000, ajith or Prasanna to the thread here.
They are from India and I'm sure they know about vedic maths.

As everyone here said, vedic math allows you to use shortcuts/ easy methods to solve the problems. If you're weak in quant VM will certainly help you get your "basics" right.
be it for GMAT or anything; it helps.

If you're from India, you should get such books in local bookstalls (starting as cheaap as 15 Rs. / $0.30)

Also look for "Shakuntala Devi's" books...they're popular...

PS.: My opinion about VM is different. but that applies to me hence forget it- I've never used those VM strategies b/c I'd already built mine (10-12 years ago ;) )

Vedic math is an ancient process of speedy mental math.. originating in India... the famous mathematican Ramanujan was a professed vedic mathematician... he solved the riehman problem using his vedic mathematical techniques.. his formula is what today's atm money system is based on as well...
anyway.. vedic math to be effective is years of training and mental practice.. it aint gonna happen in two to three months.. to be effective enough on the gmat.. plus.. might be " more " helpful only for a few questions..

so i say.. dont stress

Good info, stock. This might be a good resource to point GMAT test takers to if they are performing too slowly in quant...

solve in 10 secs but doubt it

hi,

vedic mathematics sure will help with the pace of solving the problems. but, i suggest use the shortcut method that are recommended for elementary calculation like multiplication, division, sq. roots, squaring, cubes ,etc.

though it has got coolest method to solve certain problems. certain methods do give wrong answers.

so, watchword is --- be careful.

Verify the methods u sure will reap the benefits.

Guys, Vedic maths is useful to speedup some multiplications and wud help us in arriving at some approximations....
its a really interesting read... but too many shortcuts to remember...
i wudn't recommend that to anyone whos not toooo slow in calculations...

Still attaching a pdf i found on net for those who r interested....

Hi ,
i just wanted to say that Vedic maths helped me a lot in my calculations. It improved my speed and i was able to answer questions a lot faster.
But i feel it differs from person to person. I am not the logical right brained person in other words am a retard when it comes to maths... had to work really hard so ....ur call buddy. B-)

Vedic Maths is very useful in improving speed of your calculations. Vedic Maths have techniques to solve not only arithmetic but also algebra and geometry problems. However, in my opinion GMAT exam is not that compute intesive compared to say Indian CAT exam. Vedic Maths techniques would be more useful in CAT exam as there are lot of compute intensive problems as well as a seperate section for data interpretation which requires lot of arithmetic.

Vedic Maths also take lot of time to internalize as we are more accustomed to traditional methods of calcuation. Unless you have lot of time at hand, not advisable to focus on Vedic Maths..that's in IMHO :)
