As my user name suggests, I am Joanna and I'm from Toronto, Canada.

I've been working in real estate for the last 3 years and finally decided that I needed to do something different... so here I am.

To be honest, I'm a little overwhelmed with all the prep stuff and material available - hopefully this site will help me navigate through the GMAT waters. I'm looking to get into one of the top 10, so I'm aiming at a 700+ score - the higher the better!

Good luck everyone!

Joanna

I just found this website after having studied for the GMAT for about six months now. I am very happy to have found a place where there are people who can relate to my GMAT struggle. I grew up in New Orleans, where i recieved a sub par education with regards to the rest of the united states. I have always had problems with math, and struggled through my undergraduate degree. Now, at the age of 29, having been a professional musician for most of my life, i want to move on and get my MBA from a good school. (ivy league is sort of a dream i have, though i dont know how i will afford it.)

I have not taken the GMAT yet, but would like to start up in the spring semester. Which means ive gotta take it within the next couple of weeks and start applying the next day. so far i have been studying from these four books:

GMAT for dummies 5th edition

Barron's GMAT 2007-08

Kaplan GMAT Premier Program 2008 edition (very difficult practice problems) With CD

McGraw Hill's 2009 GMAT prep with CD

the first two books on the list here taught me the basics on a lot of the math stuff what i wasnt familiar with, and then i got the kaplan with the cd companion where i took my first CAT practice, and started with making 200-440 scores. (VERY HARD) then i got the Mcgraw hill cd and book, and started at 400, and now make 600 scores. I thought i had made a lot of practice, and was feeling more comfortable, But today i went back to the Kaplan cd, and made a 500.

This leads me to my first question for you guys on this website. Does anyone know if the Kaplan Prep is more difficult than the actual GMAT?

Im excited about hearing from you guys and learning what you went/are going through to prep.
Surprised

Hello everybody,

really glad I found this forum. I'll be taking the GMAT in about four weeks.. got to start studying, then! I need a score of at least 650. I realize I haven't got much time, but then again I work a lot better and harder when under pressure.

Hi,
I am so glad I found this forum. My name is Rena and am currently employed in the Finance dept for a non-profit Healthcare organization. I've been in finance a few years, but prior to this I worked in Information Technology for another healthcare organization. I have a B.S. in Information Technology and decided to pursue my MBA to move up the 'corporate ladder' with my current employer.
My biggest dilemma...or should I say fear is taking the GMAT. I have been out of school for so long and am afraid that I won't be able to pass this test w/ the standards as set forth by the universities I intend to apply.
From what I gather this isn't an easy test by any means. Math has always been a problem for me, so I wonder how much math do I really need to comprehend in order to do well on the exam?
Anyways....look forward to learning from everyone else's experience(s).

Rena

Hi all,
My name is Jiten Ragha. I currently live in Bloomfield, NJ. I just graduated from NJIT with my Accredited Bachelors of Architecture in May 2007. I am currently working at a small architectural firm in Manhattan and would like to earn an MBA to better understand and create new opportunities for future business ventures. I have never taken any classes or anything of that sort to prepare me for the GMAT or finance, but I wanted to learn where to begin (Its kind of scary), and I am glad i found this site! I want to get my MBA at an IVY league school, hopefully Columbia University in NY. I am happy that I don't have to figure out the GMAT and MBA on my own.

Thanks and Good Luck! Very Happy

Jiten

Hello everyone,

My name is waleed; I'm from Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.

I'm a Corporate Relationship Manager in a bank called "Samba Financial Group."

I stumbled on this site by coincidence while I was trying to find a test center for GMAT. Eric, I have to admit, this site is a grate idea. Just as johny Cage said, I also hope it will help me achieve good score in the test.

If everything goes well, I plane to take it this coming November 2008.

Hobbies include: Camping, Snowboarding, ( ok before anyone shoots me for it, yes I know I live in a desert right now, not much snow to work with, but I used to snowboard a lot while I was living in the US) Come winter, I just fly to where the snow is Smile .

I'm also a Pirate enthusiast which is kinda ironic since I happen to work for a bank, but then again who said banks don't pirate your money in the first place haha.

My hobbies used to include body building; sadly I stopped doing that after I started my current job. The way I see it, if …. No, after I get a good score on this Test, ill get back into the gym while I'm taking my masters. I defiantly don't want to be part of that stereotype that all bankers have to be fat and balled hahahaha.

Waleed.
