Indian male, GMAT concerns

by varunnn » Wed Jan 28, 2015 10:31 am
Hi Jon,

I work at a Swiss Inv Bank in the IT Workforce Strategy and Operating Model team.
have 4.5 years of experience with CS in Singapore and then in London.

I'd like to understand how you see my profile. I've listed down my strengths and weaknesses and want to understand if I've got it right.

Strengths:
promoted thrice in the last 4.5 years
international exposure - studied, worked in Singapore; working in London
highest performance ratings each of the last 4 years
managing team in Europe and Middle East Asia
GMAT 720
GPA 3.48 (Majors in Information Systems, Finance)
Extra curriculars in University - Teaching Assistant, Dragon Boat, Table Tennis, Cricket, Fencing, Volunteer work (40 hours)

Weaknesses:
Gmat - Integrated reasoning: 2 (12 percentile) - this is my biggest worry. do you recommend a retake?
Indian male
Though work is more aligned to consulting, it has been within the IT division
Extra curriculars since graduating - fitness (dropped 66lbs), cricket (established a team), 1 charity event per year, travelled to 20 different countries

Schools interested in:
1. Stern
2. Ross
3. Duke
4. Columbia
5. Wharton
Any other schools I could consider? I'd ideally like to move into an IB associate program post MBA.

Thanks for your feedback.

Regards,
Varun

Dear Varun,
So first of all, about that IR - don't worry about it too much. Yes, it would be better to have higher. But still, the main score is the main thing. And with a 720 you do NOT want to retake!
Next, things look pretty good. You are in a good industry, and work for what I can only assume to be a very good employer (Did you ever hear of a poor Swiss bank? :) )

Your grades are good (although I don't know the school).

Now as far as your evaluation for those schools go.. basically I don't have enough info to answer you. I can say - yes, you can make it in to top 25 programs. But top 5? Top 10? I'm gonna need more info about your work, your employer, your activities, achievements, promotions... your school name... basically everything.
