Well, right now i'm in a confused state of mind. Confused I got 640. Well i had been pushing myself for 750 since the first day i started my preparation. The fact is that the moment i finished my exam i felt that i had crossed 720.

To start things off, i must admit that after the first quants session i thot that dat i had hurt my chances.I was unsure about three to four questions. I could not be sure. All i looked forward to was the verbal section.

Well, as i started off my verbal section i was happy with the progress. I did not waste any time on any question and breezed through the first ten questions. However i was careful not to make any misteke. To tell u a fact, i always end up short of time with regards to the verbal section. But, on the D-day i was able to divide my time comfortably. I was rest assured by the time i reached the 35th question that i'd cross 700. When i answered the last question, I did not even have a shread of doubt that i would score lower than 700. I felt that ghosts of Quants would be well taken care of by the verbal section.

When i finally saw my score, i was shell shocked. I am still trying to come to terms with my score. I got a 49 in quants(My average) and 28 in verbal(35-36being my average). It was disgusting. I checked up with others who took the test at the same appointed hour. Each one of them was dissappointed with his/her verbal section. They all complained about the verbal section. one thing was common amongst all of us. The verbal section was easy. And this was the case throughout. One of my fellow test-takers said that towards the end of her quants section, with 1:12 minutes remaining, she had three questions to go. Can u predict what happened next. As she answered her 34th queston by pressing next....the screen went to end exam. She immediately reported it. Well can u believe that? I am not sure about the accuracy of the process. I am seriously doubtful about my score. There is no way that i got more than 9 incorrect out of 41 questions.

Can anyone suggest what i can do? Well do i take the bullet???? In any case there is no other option. Shocked

dude,

seriously i thought i was only the one who has been feeling like that.. dude dude, even i felt the same.. i was surprised to see my verbal score as i was expecing it to be above 35 all the way through.. i was very confident about it.. by the seeing the end result i was not shocked but i felt that i have done much better than that.. even now after one week of the test i still believe that i had done well.. i felt verbal section to be much easier than the gmat prep's.. much easier than mgmat tests'.. i know few experts might say that those easy questions were due to the predecessor incorrect questions i answered.. after doing so many of practise tests, i can atleast justify my stance to an extent.. ( I might be wrong though.. my nerves would have bettered my senses.. but)).. after reading your post i was excited to post my reply as i felt the same..

There seems to be an high correlation to people wiping out on the Gmat in India, especially Mumbai. Just an observation.

@samesame

that's interesting...i had the same experience (and so have others) when i did the test in america on june 28. i had been scoring in the 40s in verbal in the practice tests (GMATPrep) and i ended up with a 30 in the real deal.

it could be that test iterations differ based on the test being administered at certain times of the day, or administered to native vs. non-native english speakers, or administered to non-americans (they ask for a person's passport as an id if that person is not american, even though that person is on a valid visa in the US).

i have no way to know if it was just my nerves (i doubt it though as i have been scoring the 40s in the MGMAT CATs now too), and as i can't do anything about it, i will take the test again.

lets see if round 2 is successful.

Its a breather to come across some other people with similar experiences. I dunno man. Is luck supposed to b a factor in GMAT. I guess so. really man....everything put aside, i am in a fix. I'll b calling the call centre and ask them abt an administration glitch. believe me, the highest score till the time i left the centre was mine and 5 ppl got it. C'mon man......my friend also gave the paper with me. even she got da same score. Plus, how can they explain about the 3 questions getting wiped off??? lets see what they say.

Abhinav,
You remind me of my own GMAT experience. Day by day, I am starting to believe that to stop the flood of Indian MBAmongers, GMAC has really gone gung ho. For last two months, starting from July, check the nationality of people who scored in high 700s and a pattern will come out.
Perhaps, it is to bring down the abnormal average score for Indian IT Males or to fight with scoretop fiasco. But whatever it is the hard fact is that compared to past year, the GMAT has become difficult and that too in an inexplicable way where Verbal never tells you where you go wrong!!!

I scored a 640 with a terrible 29 in verbal.
During the test, I felt I was doing very well. I consistently scored more than 36 on GMATprep and Manhattan gmat tests. The only test where I scored a 29 was in Kaplan CAT's.

I was not nervous or sleepy and yes I am an Indian not a native speaker.
I have no clue what to do. May be this GMAT is beyond me.

And I donot believe I haven't learnt the material. I can explain almost every single OG SC question as to why a particular option is correct or incorrect. I strongly believe that GMAT has changed and is testing on basic verbal skills, which cannot be acquired by just going through the OG questions.

For people who has been a avid reader all his or her life would not face this situation.

Hey Abhinav, Niraj, and Crucible misfit for cubicles

Are you guys planning to take it again anytime soon ? I decided to wait and watch a little bit. I believe I studied to the best of my ability and I could not go beyond 640 with a stupid 29 in verbal.
