Case 1: F=1
Since D is 12 years older, D = 1+12 = 13.
Since D+F = y, y = 13+1 = 14.
How many years old will Fred be y years from now?
14 years from now Fred will be 15.
Case 2: F=2
Since D is 12 years older, D = 2+12 = 14.
Since D+F = y, y = 14+2 = 16.
How many years old will Fred be y years from now?
16 years from now Fred will be 18.
Since the answer to the question stem can be different values, the two statements combined are INSUFFICIENT.
The correct answer is E.
