Distance learning today is far more interactive and flexible. Especially suited for working professionals, these courses utilize technology to deliver lectures and course material. They also involve several learning activities such as interactive workshops and industry visits.

From a learning style the big difference is the interaction with your fellow classmates. It is really heard to duplicate the experience of being in a classroom. The ability to create a dialog in real time is one thing distance learning hasn't been able perfect yet. However, HBX Live is one of the best examples I've seen yet at trying to make that happen. Obviously, you also lose a lot on the social and group activities with distance learning.
