How can I improve my CR skills? ASAP

by yummi81 » Mon Aug 18, 2014 8:09 am
I am retaking the GMAT in less than a week and I am freaking out!

The CR part of the Verbal section is for me the hardest part to overcome.
I've scored 33 in my last official GMAT (which was a good improvement on my first 16 Verbal score - horrible yes I know) and since then whenever I take practice tests my score fluctuates between 33 and 23.

I've studied in the official guide and got most of the CR questions right (and if I got them wrong I understood why I got them wrong). I used the Veritas prep books too, as well as Magoosh online.
But whenever I am faced with CR questions in the GMAT prep, I feel like I am reading gibberish and just can't make sense of what I am reading. It's as if the lingo on the actual test (and the gmat prep test) is much harder.

What is it that I am doing wrong? or not doing right?

Just a note: I am not looking to score more than 650. and I would be totally satisfied with a 620 at this point.

It's hard to say with just the information you have given here, but the first thing you can start practices in identifying the structure of the argument. Clearly focus on what the conclusion (if one is given) is and what the premises are. Then, identify the basic assumptions that are required for the conclusion.

Obv, there are some different question types, but generally structure is an important key to make sure you are focused on the right information when evaluating the answer options.
