HBS 2+2 profile evaluation

HBS 2+2 profile evaluation Post Tue Mar 06, 2012 7:16 am
Hey,
I'm an engineering student and study in a reputed college in India.
the following is my profile:

1. GPA-9.2/10, topper of my stream
2. internship at CISCO, got a PPO from the same
3. Prefect of my school
4. Marketing and publicity head of a local event management group and organized to 3 events
5. worked with 2 NGOs and been an active participant in around 10-15 of their projects
6. published a research paper

I gave my GMAT yesterday and got a really poor score of 640(Q-48, V-30)!
I'm not sure if I even stand a slightest chance of being considered...

Please provide your comments about my chances and should I even consider applying in the third round of HBS 2+2... The other colleges that I'm considering are Yale SSP, IESE YTP, LBS MIM nad NUS Msc in Financial Engineering...

Being a Topper, and having such amazing grades form an Indian university, as well as your "political" involvement in the school are a very good start. Your GMAT however will kill your profile off the bat. Especially for 2+2, the GMAT is essentially one of the MAIN points for consideration of your application, because you haven't really worked yet! So you need a GREAT GMAT to be considered. And with your grades, I think you should be capable. Put all your energy into breaking at least a 700, if not 720.

Thanks for your reviews! I know HBS is pretty difficult to crack with such low scores but what
about the other programs that I've mentioned, do I have some chance there???

Other than the NUS program, you are still pretty much in the same issue (although perhaps the demand for high GMAT might be lower), but again, GMAT is really SO critical for these programs without experience. So do what you can to get the best score possible, and then apply to all above programs, because you DO have a very good basis. So i would say until next July your goal should be to kick the heck out of the GMAT.

Hey,
Thanks for your quick replies!
Just got my AWA score today, it's 5... But, i guess this alone would not help me.
I'm planning to give GMAT again, but the deadlines are too close, for HBS it's 10th of April and so is for Yale SSP. I'm not sure if I can raise my score so early...

Anyway, any suggestions on how I should work now to improve my score from 640 to a 700+...

The one thing I know about the GMAT is that I'm happy I never have to take it again! Smile

If you haven't done one yet, a course is very helpful.
