Dear Experts,

I am an Indian IT guy with 6 years of experience.

The following are a few highlights of my profile

1. CFA Level 2 candidate
2. Technical blogger on Oracle products since 2011. Have close to 70000 hits on my blog
3. I have written 3 technical whitepapers in my company
4. I am the author of a book on Oracle technology published by a UK publication company.
5. I am a Sun certified java programmer
6. I am an Oracle certified associate
7. I am a BTech in Electrical and Electronics

I plan to gun for the top 10 B-school in US or the top 5 of Europe. Kindly let me know the kind of score I should get to have a realistic chance of getting any of them

Regards,
Vishal

Hi Vishal,

Thanks for your post.

As you likely know, you will be applying from one of the most competitive profiles (Indian engineers). Applicants from this profile typically score higher than average on the GMAT. Therefore, I suggest targeting a score that is 20+ points higher than your target school's average. For example, Virginia Darden's average GMAT score is 701, so if they are in your list of schools I would target a 720+. On the other hand, Wharton's average GMAT score is 720, so a good target score there would be 740+. This is presuming that you graduated First Class with Honors and have been receiving promotions at work every two years or so. If that is not the case, then you might target more in the 30+ points range.

Hope that helps and good luck with your studies!

Best,
Heidi
