Good Study plan Post Thu Apr 05, 2012 6:45 pm
I have been studying the GMAT on and off it has been 4 months now. I took a Kaplan GMAT onsite prep course and I was very disappointed. I would like to take the GMAT before the tests changes June 5th but I don't know if I have enough time to prepare. I am looking for a structured study plan which will help me get in the 700's score. Right now my score is pretty low. Any suggestions?

If I were you, I wouldn't base my preparation on trying to write the GMAT before June 5th. In the short term, the new IR section will have little (if any) bearing on your admission to a Business School.

You should ensure that you successfully reach your target score on at least 2 practice tests before you even think about registering for the test. If it takes you 1 month to reach your target score, great - you can write before the IR section is added. If it takes longer, then you may have to take the GMAT after the IR section is added.

Cheers,
Brent

Hi Brent,

Thank-you for your quick reply. I might be better off writing the GMAT later, its only too bad because I bought so many books and I will probably have to buy more for the IR section.

My biggest dilemma is finding a good study plan that is effective for me. I tried Kaplan and I really didn't like their onsite classes or their private tutoring. However, I think their practice material is not bad.

I feel like I need a structure plan at this point. I struggle when I do the questions especially the math section. I never think of solving the question the way the answer does. I am not sure what to do at this point. Look for another private tutor or use specific books.

Do you have any helpful suggestions for me?

Well, there's the 60-Day Study Guide that I created for BTG (http://www.beatthegmat.com/mba/gmat-guide)

When it comes to math solutions, it's a good idea to learn as many different approaches as possible. By expanding your mathematical "toolbox," you will soon discover that you have many options when you encounter a math question. This will inevitably help to improve your score.

Cheers,
Brent

I just started Brent's 60-Day Study Guide...my test date is June 2nd. This will be my second test. I am trying to get into the Darden Executive MBA Program. The final deadline is June 15.
