GMAT retake score lower

GMAT retake score lower Post Fri Jul 20, 2012 8:25 pm
Hi,

I scored 680 on my first attempt and I scored 640 on the retake. As you can imagine, I'm quite disappointed with the score. I got a 720 the day before the exam on gmat prep so not really sure what happened. I put off a lot of travel for studying so I wont be able to put much time into studying again for the next few months. I would like to know whether the lower retake score will be a disadvantage. Do schools only look at the highest score? My target schools are Harvard, Kellogg and Wharton. Please let me know.

Hi galaxynexus,

Schools take into consideration your highest score if you have taken the test multiple times. So as of now 680 is in reckoning. If you can go higher, that particular score will be taken into account.For the schools that you are considering, the avg GMAT score is 710+. Although score alone does not matter, you will have a better chance if you are close to the avg score for these schools.

Your highest score is used, but given your target schools, I would recommend your taking the test again.
