GMAT 2nd try from 370 to 500 Post Sat May 05, 2012 2:33 pm
I took the gmat for the first time in March and totally failed (got 370) Q19V23. I was not gonna give up. I signed up for another test and bought Veritas books, SC Manhattan, New OG 13th edition and also decided to invest in one of the prep courses. After reading bunch of different reviews I went ahead with Master GMAT. The math portion of it was very helpful but the verbal portion was easier than the actual exam. Anyhow I took Kaplan test a week after my first test and scored 550. Below are my other scores:
Kaplan 550
MGMAT 1:580
MGMAT 2: 620
MGMAT 3:590
MGMAT 4: 600
GMATPrep 1: 480
GMATPrep 2:580
Yesterday when I gave my exam I got Q40V20=500. Very disappointed but I'm going to fight it until I beat it. I really need to improve my Verbal and wanted to know the best material that I can use to boost my score by 10-12 points there. The funny thing is I would always score mid V30s on practice exams and when I was actually writing the real exam I thought the questions weren't too hard ( I guess I was wrong).

For verbal, I used MGMAT SC and CR guides and Powerscore CR guide.
They were very helpful for my preparation. I also practiced the
concepts that I learned in these books on the questions from various
forums.

Hi there,

I also have a similar case but I havn't done it for the seconed time yet !!
But I won't give up this easy and now I'm working on my new study plan

try to read more of the success stories on this website and you'll know how we could make it if we just keep up and don't give up

read this post:

Yes, keep going and don't give up. I'm in a similar situation and I'm not giving up until I break 700!

The debrief alnasser973 posted is great, but he used WAY too many different books. I think OG and MGMAT should be enough (that's all I'm using, so it better be enough! haha).

Good luck!
