From a 520 to 710 - I beat the GMAT Post Sun Aug 02, 2009 1:26 pm
Gave GMAT on friday and scored 710

First of all, I would like to thank all the people that contribute regularly to this website. I've been a passive member for the past several months and have found the explanations truly helpful - the success stories truly inspiring.

This is my third attempt- In my first attempt I scored a 520, the second a 670 and finally 710.

Even though I had worked hard for 4 months before my first attempt, I panicked in the exam and had to randomly guess on a number of quant and verbal problems and ended up with a 520. It was very disappointing. I decided not to give up after reading some truly inspirational stories in this website and gave my second attempt after a month's break and ended up with a 670. But I was certain that with a little more practice I could break the 700 mark. So studied for another month and finally gave my test last Friday.

I know getting 710 in the third attempt may not be a great thing, but for me it's great after the first disaster.

Books/Reference Material:
1) Official guide -11 and 12
2) Manhattan Sentence correction
3) Power score Bible
4) Kaplan 800

Practice test:
1)Mgmat Tests
2) Kaplan CD tests
3)GMAT prep- A must do. The GMAT prep exams are the key, I would advise to take them multiple times, since the questions in real exam are pretty similar to ones in GMAT prep

So for all those out there each of you can definitely Beat the GMAT. Don't give up.

All the best for future aspirants.

Hey dude,

congrats! I just took GMAT yesterday and got 670, which is a bit lower than what I was hoping for. Felt like crying afterwards but feeling a bit better now. I want to retake the test & hopefully the result will be better.

Can you tell me where you got the GMAT Prep tests from>?I downloaded the 2 free ones from the official GMAC website, but I think I need more to practice...

Thanks for the wishes.

I am sure you will be able to do much better next time. Good Luck with your prep.

With regards to GMAT prep test, i downloaded them from MBA. com and i would suggest to take them a couple of times. They are fairly close to the real one. Even on my second and third repeats, i observed that not many questions were repeated.

MGMAT tests- I bought it online from their store. GMAT Prep- you can download for free from MBA.com and Kaplan CD tests i got it from a friend of mine, but i m sure you could find it online.
You can also take a free test from the Kaplan,MGMAT, Veritas and Princeton sites.
