Hi,

I will really appreciate if you can please tell me what are my chances of getting into the September 2013 of Exec MBA of LBS? My profile is below:

Age: 34
Sex: M
Nationality: British
GMAT: 520 (Q 40 & V 21)--> Taken today. Very disappointed. But can't do much. Very intense work commitments. Not trying to use this as an excuse though.
Undergraduate Degree - 1995-1999.
GPA - 2.5
Work experience: 11 years
Management Experience: 9 years
Team Size management: 15-22 people.
International experience: Worked in Prague, Netherlands, Germany, UK and India at managerial positions. Managing teams spread globally.
Budget Management: Approx $10 Mill.
Expertise: IT Consulting.
Extracuricullar activities: Lead the teams responsible for aid distribution for Chernobyl Children Trust.

According to the LBS website, the average class for the Executive MBA has the following credentials:

Class Size: 75
Average Work Experience: 10 years
Range of Work Experience: 5 - 21 years
GMAT Range: 600 - 720

Your experience will intrigue the admissions committee, but I think it's worth taking the GMAT again considering you want to make sure you comfortably fit into the averages for the school to maximize your chances of being accepted. It's not to say that you will not get in if you should apply now, but it will be more difficult.

Yep. I agree. You will probably have to retake the GMAT, but otherwise most everything else looks in order. Will you be sponsored by your firm?

Thanks for your reply. Really appreciated. I may get an sponsorship. I have recently started the process. Will this make a difference? Also, do you think if I apply with this score I may be dinged or do you think I have a fair chance of getting a conditional offer?

What I am trying to ask is can I apply with this score or wait for a month to take the GMAT and then apply?

Just want to add one thing that I have a strong Alumni recommendation as well. So will this make any difference?

I would say its better to wait until your score is in order. As for your potential sponsorship, yes it makes a difference. Getting sponsored can be a VERY STRONG argument to accept you, because you are being supported by your firm. what more proof would they need of your leadership potential.

Alumni recommendations can be an added cherry, but it's not the cake. Smile

Hi. Thanks for your reply. I have submitted my application and got the response in less than 24 hours. Now this makes me think the following questions:

I called the admissions officer immediately after I took the test. He immediately said, I have to re-take the test but still can submit my application. I submitted my application, and got the response from him in less that 24 hours saying "Even though your application is very strong, I will recommend to take the test again and contact them after taking the exam". So what does this mean? Is this possible i.e. someone to read and respond to the application in less that 24 hours? Or something is wrong over here? Also, in terms of application where do I stand? Is the school indirectly telling me that I have no chance of getting an admit, if I don't raise my score?

Or maybe look at it this way: He is saying you have good chances of getting in, if you can only secure that score! The thing is they want to cover their own interests. By keeping their average GMAT high, they are securing their rankings, and guaranteeing a certain amount of prestige for the program... so even if everything else is in order, sometimes they will ask for you to do this as well. I have seen this happen pretty often with part time and EMBA applicants... because the schools have a pretty good idea where you stand based on your professional experience, but they still want your GMAT.

Hi Jon - Thanks. I am taking the GMAT on this Thursday. But, I would like to ask, I submitted by application in April and its still in the submitted status. The last date is 18th June 2012 and the school says that they still take candidates in Exec MBA after the last date too. So,considering worst case scenario, if I don't get the desired score,do you think the chances are really high that I will be dinged?
