H there,
I've got another question... Do you think that teaching italian abroad (as I'm an italian native speaker) could be a good work experience before applying to a MBA program?
thanks!!

Hi Rob,

I'm sure teaching Italian abroad would be a great personal experience for you. Does teaching fit into any of your future goals? Perhaps living abroad has some importance to your goals?

Generally I would advise making decisions based on your future goals. That being said, having interesting personal experiences is always a good idea - whether it helps you with applications or not.

Good luck!

Hi Amy,
living abroad would have importance because:

1. I'd like to find a job in international business
2. I'd like to find a job in Asia

But I don't know if it would be helpful or not... What do you think?
thanks!

Rob,

It sounds like living abroad fits with your goals. Therefore, as I said before, it makes sense.

I don't think life decisions should be made because they will look good on an application, however, they will look good on an application if they are well considered and have relevance to where you want to be in your career and your life.

Good luck!

Hi Ami,
it would of course been great spend time in Japan in order to get international experience.
another thing: do you think that being an international student can help/hurt my chances of being admitted to a mba?
thanks!

Hi Rob,

That's difficult to answer because there are so many factors that go into choosing an MBA class. I don't think it will make a significant impact on your application either way.

News!

by mjjking » Wed Aug 01, 2007 7:59 am
Hi Amy,
I have news! I've just been offered a job at a local company (with more than 300 employees). I will be the supervisor of the quality department, and I will manage the quality certifications for the company, making sure thay meet all the EU standards!

What do you think, is this a valuable pre-MBA job? I think so, it would give autonomy in handling the prject yet responsabilty!

Thanks!

Roberto

Hi Rob,

Any job with a career path that you are passionate about is a good pre-MBA job. I have personally met people with backgrounds ranging from the peace corps to the military to the arts who have successfully been admitted to MBA programs. You will naturally want the potential to grow and learn in any job you choose, as well as the opportunity to exercise leadership and teamwork.

As always, my advice is to make conscious and strategic decisions based on your goals, and that will be the best pre-MBA path.

Good luck!
