(A) $20.00
(B) $30.00
(C) $35.00
(D) $45.00
(E) $55.00

Before leaving Rodes had $500.

After conversion, money that Rodes received = 500*1.55 = 775

Now, trip is cancled. Rodes convert 775 (German Marks) into XX dollars.
775*0.6 = $465

Total Lost = 500-465 = $35

550 million $ is the current year total of operating costs and commissions after a 10% increase from the previous year.
Assume previous year's operating costs and commissions = x

Therefore, 550 = 1.1 * x
x=500

The sum of operating costs and commissions for both years = 500 + 550 = 1050 million (B)

(A) 9%
(B) 10%
(C) 11%
(D) 12%
(E) 15%

Guys...I tried and solved this question too..

Fox's Jeans price/pair=15
Poney's Jeans price/pair=18

discount on Fox's jeans = x
discount on Pony's jeans = y

Total no. of pairs of jeans = 5

3*15 = 45
2*18 = 36

(Fox)some discount on 45 = x/100 (45)
(Pony)some discount on 36 = y/100 (36)

sum of both discount = 9.

x/100 (45) + x/100 (36) = 9

45x + 36y=900
15x + 12y = 300

sum of the two discounts rates = 22 (given)

x + y = 22
15x + 12y = 300

y = ?

y = 10% (discount rate on pony's jeans)

4 is the correct answer. At the time of practice, I tried to solve it by putting x=0, then x=1....because of that method, I got very complex equations that forced me to marked wrong answer Sad

Really GMAT questions are simple but tricky. A person who framed GMAT questions knows all areas where maximum test takers commit mistakes.
