The original employees hired, who had been there over twenty years, were fiercely loyal to the firm, and it offered no retirement benefits or profit sharing to any employees.

(A) and it offered no
(B) and it offered neither
(C) still it offered no
(D) though it offered no
(E) though it offered neither

Question: Why is 'C' wrong?

The sentence needs a "contrast" word to make it logical.(read a loud again then you see what the sentence means.) Therefore A,B, and C are out.

C is wrong because it is a run-on sentence.

Between D and E,
E is wrong because when you use "neither" you need a "nor" as a package deal.(correct idiom). However, the sentence has "or". Therefore, we don't need "neither".

D is the answer.

Is "though" preferred to "still"?

We need a contrast clause, "conjunction",
Even though
Although
or
though

We don't need a "still" word because it doesn't sound right and it is run-on sentence(two difference sentence that does't cohesive each other without conjunction(such as "and',"but","though"...) if you use "still". Besides it doesn't sound right.

ITS LIKE

COMPANY DOES NOT GIVES U ANY BENEFIT ,STILL U R LOYAL TO IT.

U R LOYAL TO THE COMPANY , THOUGH THE COMPANY DOES NOT GIVE ANY BENEFIT.

ON EXCHANGING STILL AND THOUGH.....THE IMPACT OF SHOWING CONTRAST GETS FADED.

hth

the logic require "though"

"or" must go with "no" or "not" at the begining.
