From 1984 through 1986, I taught English at a private language school in the Japanese city of Kanazawa. Upon returning to the U.S., I launched a 12-year career as a writer and editor. During this time I worked on projects as diverse as editing The Handbook of Psychiatry and the Law for a professor of psychiatry, writing many feature articles for Legal Assistant Today, serving as project manager/editor for a Prentice-Hall reference text on employee stock ownership plans, writing thousands of information science abstracts for Plenum Corp.'s ISA database, and researching and writing book-length market studies for Find SVP's Packaged Facts, Inc. In 1991 and 1992 I worked for the newsletters Small Corporation Update and Tax Update for Business Owners writing articles on benefits, tax, law, and management. From 1992 through 1997, I joined the business book publisher Quality Resources, first as acquisitions editor and then as editorial director. These positions immersed me in the business of publishing. Additional freelance projects include writing chapters for Gale Research's 1999 publication Major Marketing Campaigns Annual and regular feature articles for New York Living, a lifestyle and real estate magazine.

Since mid-1998, I have been helping Accepted.com's clients develop their graduate school application strategies and articulate their ideas, goals, and experiences in thoughtfully crafted graduate application essays. I have worked with clients from all over the world and with re-applicants. My MBA clients have been accepted at Wharton, Stanford, HBS, Kellogg, Chicago, Tuck, Columbia, Cornell, Yale, UCLA, Stern, Darden, Purdue, GWU, Carnegie Mellon, INSEAD, Kenan-Flagler, Emory, MIT Sloan, London School of Business, Indiana, Fordham, and UT Austin, among others.

My B.A. is from SUNY Buffalo (1978, art history and English).
