by anshulkamra » Sun Mar 23, 2014 10:35 pm
Hi,

I'm looking to apply at top 10 US B-Schools(specifically looking at Wharton, Stanford, Columbia, Booth and Sloan) in Round 1 and it'd be great if I could get a fair idea of my chances

Profile :
Indian Male, Degree - Integrated Masters of Science in Statistics and informatics( not Engineering technically ) from IIT. Rank ( 10/55 ) in class. GPA - 7.8/10
Age : 27
Work Exp -
Associate- Working for 3 years in Global Markets arm of a top European Investment Bank at Mumbai, London, New York.
Involved in deals with an approx combined AUM of USD 5 Billion over the last 3 years. Manage a portion of the business independently, which involves complete end to end management of processes from Designing the portfolios, to managing their day to day calculations to producing legal / marketing material, managing internal and external client expectations and coordinating with different desks across the globe for the same

I'm Managing a team of 10 off shore employees currently to assist in portfolio calcs and development.

I'm also building up a 4 member team from scratch with a target AUM of 1 Bill USD by year end and moving to US permanently in a couple of months for the same.

Extra Acads -
Co-founded a first of its kind, consulting / marketing Group in IIT to market in-house technologies to the industry, and was successful in selling 2 techs to the industry. Organised road shows in different cities in India for the same.
Initiated TED Talks in campus, which later became an annual event.
Organised patent drives at IIT, leading to highest filing of patents in the history of the institute.
I've been an active member of Social Responsibility activities at the bank, have mentored an intern
A debater ( won a couple of awards for the same ) and an avid reader. I'm an Amateur photographer with a photograph put up in a gallery.

I've given GMAT and my score is 710. I understand it's quite low compared to my peers, so I intend to give it a 2nd shot.

Please let me know if any further details would be required as these are couple of key points that I thought were worth mentioning and any sort of suggestions would be welcome !!
Thanks !

Hi anshulkamra,

Thanks for your post. In regards to your application, I recommend you read this case study of an Indian engineer who was accepted into a top MBA program. It should provide insight for your candidacy: https://www.stacyblackman.com/client-stories/

For your GMAT, one thing that is important to remember is that your highest score is self-reported on your application, so admissions teams will focus on your best score. There is no harm in taking the exam again.
