Career Guidance - 2nd MBA/MS

by deepankarboro » Sun Aug 17, 2014 12:18 pm
Dear Concerned

I am currently 28. I had done my bachelors in Information Technology. After graduation, I worked with IT MNCs as a developer for 31 months. I did my MBA from School of Management, IIT Bombay. After my post-graduation, I worked with a startup NBFC for 7 months as a Business Technology Representative Associate. I wasn't happy with the work given, as I always wanted a job which allowed me to use my analytical skills and challenge. I love number crunching.

During my MBA, I had grown interest in sales & marketing. I got a chance to work in the middle-east(Bahrain) with a MNC FMCG distributorship firm as a Section/Area Sales Manager. Its been 8 months working in the firm, and I am not quite happy with the work.

I want to move to an analytical career, as a Market Research Analyst, Business/Financial Analyst or preferably to a consulting role.

Is there any specific program/course which will allow me to switch careers? On second thoughts, would it be wise enough to go for a 2nd MBA or a MS with majors in analytics?

Regards
Deepankar

Deepankar,
Well, doing an MS will take you normally into a far more "Technical" role than doing another MBA. But it's up to you and what you want.

If you DO want to do a second MBA, this is possible. And I have worked with several clients (all Indians who had a first "Technical" MBA, such as yourself). It does make things a biiiit harder, and there are some schools that will not consider applications from folks who already have one MBA (Duke is one example), but all in all if your reasoning is sound and your goals make sense it is possible.

I do so hope this helps, and if you have any further questions do not hesitate, not at all...
