Cancelled Scores -- Need experts advice Post Thu May 24, 2012 2:26 am
Hi All,

Sad I took the GMAT today nd chose to cancel my score. This is my second attempt. I had got 560 earlier. I did very badly in maths. I think verbal was fine. I was so tensed that I could nt get any answer correct after first few questions. I was running out of time in maths and in haste clicked through. Now I need expert's help to help me answer a few questions. Please help.

1. Cancelling the score does it lead to a negative view in admissions.
2. Suppose that I had choosen to see my score and it was below 560 would the new score alone be taken by universities.
3. I get nervous in exams I dont know why I cancelled. I was scoring 630 above in all Kapln CATs.

I am shattered and I dont know what to do . Please give your views on points 1 ,2,3 Sad

first of all, sounds like you had a panic attack.

I've been through it, and it sucks.

Most admissions committees at business schools only take your best score. That said, if your score dropped to a 450- there would definitely be concern that you would have to address in your application.

It DOES look a little strange to cancel your scores, and it will require explanation in your applications.

and your third point was addressed in my very first sentence.

Thanks a lot for your reply Ashim. I was not well and was doing miserably in maths quant part. So cancelling my score will lead to a negative impact in my application Sad I was not at all well and instead of getting a bad score I opted to cancel. Can you provide me with some links or resources which can throw more light on this issue. Thanks a lot.

Unfortunately, I do not have the time to dig up links, but I have researched about business schools, application process, and the GMAT for over 50 hours total.

The two things you need to do now, is 1) Re-take the GMAT and do not cancel your score & 2) Explain to your admissions committee that you had a panic attack during the test (in your applications)

As far as not panicking in the future:
1) Stay hydrated
2) Realize that the GMAT is just a damn test and not the end of the world.
3) Accept your fate (whatever that may be) and take your time...
